Cameby Downs Coal Mine

Peter Campbell Earthmoving has been contracted by Syntech Resources to carry our civil earthworks for the new Cameby Downs Coal Mine between Miles and Chinchilla in the Surat Basin, West of Brisbane.
Due to the short construction timeframe and engineering issues, Peter Campbell Earthmoving entered into a Service Agreement of which budgets and KPI’s were agreed for each section of work.  To date, Peter Campbell Earthmoving has completed:

Watpac Civil infrastructure Talinga Water Treatment Facility (Origin Gas)
Origin Energy required the construction of a Water Treatment Facility, Effluent Pond and Feed Pond in order to facilitate its Coal Seam Gas (CSG) operations in the Talinga region.  Water extracted during the CSG process is treated, filtered and re-processed to enable both commercial and non-commercial uses.  Peter Campbell Earthmoving supplied Scrapers, Dozers, Graders, Excavators, Rollers, Articulated Trucks and more to the project which was managed by Watpac Civil.

Groote Eylandt Mining Company Tailings Dam (Macmahon/BHP)
Peter Campbell Earthmoving Pty Ltd was contracted by Macmahon Contractors in May 2008 to construct a 1.3 million metres compacted clay lined tailings dam.  Due the location of the project and a requirement to finish the job before the start of the Wet Season PCE took across 6 * 637G Scrapers, 2 *D10T Dozers, Compactors, Graders, Excavators, Loader, Water Carts and Articulated Trucks.  Whilst there, GEMCO also requested PCE to partake in mine rehabilitation work during the night.  With a machine productivity rate of 95%of available hours, PCE was able to complete the project within the required timeframe.

MacArthur River Diversion (Xstrata)

Peter Campbell Earthmoving Pty Ltd was contracted to provide equipment and operators in order to construct a tailings dam and to enable the diversion of Barney Creek and the MacArthur River.  Using 7 * 637 push pull scrapers and 1 * 16H grader, and working a 24 hour shift, we were able to move approximately 3.5 million bcm’s over 2 dry seasons.

Shannon Creek Storage Facility (Leightons)

The Shannon Creek Storage Facility is a 30,000 megalitre storage facility to store water from the Nymboida River and supplies bulk water to the Clarence Valley and Coffs Harbour regions.  Commencing in November 2007, PCE supplied 3 * 637 push pull scrapers to Leighton Contracting and finished up in August 2008.
Project Duration:   10 Months

Legune Station Major Dam Wall Construction (18M high) (Legune Land)

Legune Dam commenced in 2005, and the55,000 megalitre storage facility on Forsyth Creek was completed in late2006.  Fully lined with an impervious80,000 m2 HDPE liner, the base of the wall is 140 metres with an average fill of 12 metres and 12 metres below natural surface for the keyway.  Approximately 2 million compacted cubic metres of clay, sandy clay and rock was used in the construction of the wall and keyway.

The project was completed in extremely difficult conditions due to a permanently high water table.  A scarcity of impervious clay meant an extremely sandy clay was utilised resulting in very poor underfoot conditions both in the borrow and fill areas.

Project Duration:   2 Years (Dry Season)
Project Cost:          $4M
